Race Reports: GRP Challenge Results! (1214 Reads)

GRP

This past weekend 11 March 2007 saw the first annual GRP Challenge held at the Deerdale Off Road club run by Custom Built Racing and his merry men. The race was held on the Dirt track which has a great combination of technical sections with lots of jumps and some cool ruts which is what makes Off Road the great fun it is!

We had a full entry of 110 drivers with 66 in Buggies and the rest in the Truggy class. Both classes used GRP pre built Grip wheels/tyres/inserts and many drivers found used tyres to be better on the loose dirt as new ones had a little too much grip!

There was some top name drivers who made the trip to Deerdale and the track action was hot to say the least! All drivers had 3 qualifiers with their best 2 rounds to count. This proved to be a very difficult track to drive consistently so the safer drivers were rewarded with high grid positions. The finals were 10 minutes in length with the B 15 and the A 20 minutes with the top 3 bumping up into the next final. Unfortunately due to light issues at the end of the day the Truggy B had to be run over 10 minutes and the A 15 minutes.

Xray Buggy Race report by Oren Levy

A Friday race is always exciting and thrilling and all are waiting the race day. Hope you know the feeling. This Friday had one difference… rainy days before the race made the surface semi-muddy, and seemed like they were determined to ruin our track, but the guys at the track had done a good gob with the track surface to enable us to race! Well done!
Practice started with a muddy surface so I choose to run with the cubic tires. I succeeded in making very good lap times during practice. The car was handled great and I felt good and drove fast, passing many drivers on the track, making no mistakes. Qualifying heats were a different story. The sun came out and started to dry the track. The track became semi-wet with lots of traction, while some places on the track already became loose. Tire choice became critical.

Race Reports: National Warm up meeting - 11th March 2007 (1245 Reads)

BRCA

This event is used by the BRCA Rallycross committee to try out the race software and timing equipment to check everything works prior to the start of the Rallycross Nationals. Some club and committee members had taken time off during the week to help with the track preparation after the recent heavy rain. There were 80+ drivers booked in and the warm dry weather meant for some fast but slippery conditions.

There was 1 round of practice and 3 rounds of qualifying with 6 heats of 14 drivers and the top 4 driver's bumping up in 10, 15 and 20 min finals respectively, results as follows:

Rallycross:
H-final: M Pascoe, G Dhami, T Saggers, M White
G-final: L Taylor, O James, S Baker, M Pascoe
F-final: L Taylor, G Davies, N Simmerson, R Merry
E-final: D Spashett, L Taylor, J Dunn, R Giles
D-final: D Spashett, L Baldry, J Armstrong, B Ryan
C-final: A Svensson, B Ralls, S Wilcox, D Spashett
B-final: K Jackson, D Spashett, E Boots, B Ralls
A-final: D Crompton, J Booth, G Alsop, J Hazlewood

A big thanks to Kelvin Armstrong's daughter, Leah who manned the tea room all day.
