Hi,

I am new to the board the truggy racing. I have ordered an XT8 and am looking at recommendations for an .21 engine to run with it (BRCA Approved). I am currently looking at the Sirio BX Masters which comes in sub £200 with pipe (on a deal I have been offered).

If anyone has any other suggestions on alternatives or comments on the above I would very much appreciate the advice?

Many Thanks,

Well having run the 3 engine's bellow in my xray truggy I must be totally honest they are all pritty amazing and each one has its own diffrent experience. At the end of the day its down to your budget and personal prefrence. They will all work really well for the truggy

Many thanks for the quick replies and recommendations. Does this mean you would choose one of the alternatives over the Sirio? Does the Sirio BXM look like a good deal?  Huh

Having had a look at the suggestions I guess they are going to be more expensive than the Sirio once a tuned pipe is added?

Apologies for the newbie questions but I have never raced nitro before and this is my first engine.

Thanks again,

I've been seriously impressed with my new OS Speed, which I ran at its first DRT meeting last weekend.

Generally speaking my advice if this is your first nitro is to find someone through the club to walk you through the break in process on the engine - my first nitro lasted about 4 months because I messed up the break in, didn't threadlock the screw holding the top of the air filter on, ran it too lean and generally abused it till all compression lost....I now make sure I have a spare pair of hands available (cheers Rich!) to make sure I don't screw it up.

If you're racing at DRT it's worth making sure the engine you buy is capable of running 10 minute heats without a fuel stop.  I know the Speed is and suspect the others on your list are as well, but worth checking on the Sirio as not sure.

On the pipe question, I'm running my Speed on the Hong Nor 2062 (aka JP-4) and it seems a good match but admittedly does make the combo a little more expensive than the Sirio.

Go with what you fancy is probably the best advice - whichever you choose you won't be the only person running it Smiley

Hi Mark.

the sirio we have pointed you at is a great bit of kit. Personally I run an O.S. Speed but over all, it's cost me about 300 notes for the package, plus of course a starter box and setup.

I ran that sirio motor in it's top spec form ( the STI ) all last season and it was solid as a rock, I still have it, I only changed to the speed to have the experience of a different motor. The sirio motor AND the pipe for £185 is not a bad place to begin. the pipe should retail at £60-65 the motor for £189.

Ultimately, as I said to you, you will be hard pressed to find a bad mill IF you buy a quality branded motor.

Hi Adam,

I just have a couple of final questions, is the version of the motor you recommended the STI version or standard and also, as others have now pointed out, what would be the max running time approx? I understand it is also probably to do with the way the motor is set up  Smiley

Thanks again for all replies  Smiley I much appreciate the advice Smiley

I have also seen the following and was wondering how this would stack up against the Sirio?

It's the std version. the sti differs by being blueprinted at the factory and is hand matched and fettled with which adds about £50 onto the price. the benefits are mainly in smoothness of the power delivery but you probably wouldn't notice the difference.

Runtime wise, how long is a piece of string? it all depends on your tuning ability, the amount of fuel in the tank, what track you are running it at and your driving style. it's a very hard thing to quantify. On the right track with you driving smoothly and with the tune right you could be close to or into the ten minute mark. most people are happy to re-fuel at around the 7-8 minute mark.
