Hiya - first of all, welcome

Just dug around to find the post you were talking about - that's just a bit of Losi vs Xray (or any other brand!) banter. As far as spares are concerned, most people that race will keep a reasonable stock of spares 'just in case' or as part of planned overhaul.
Nothing much wrong with the Losi (except it uses imperial fittings so you need different tools to everything else and they have a reputation for wearing out plastics quite quickly! I gather less of an issue on the 2.0 versions) plus at Dartford at least there aren't that many people running them.
General advice from a spares support, setup info and sanity perspective is to look at race results and see what cars people are running at the track you want to race at - those that are most popular can usually be found to be well supported by local shops and/or local pro drivers. Dartford has a high concentration of Xray drivers thanks to A-team driver Bren Ralls racing with us. Kyosho are also well represented thanks to local shop TJD Models and the importer, Mike Cradock, racing at Dartford too.
Since most tracks no longer have trackside shops with a wide range of spares, your best friend is the bloke with a good selection of spares that he'll sell when you need them!
